Sliding Glass and Patio Doors: What to Include in a Quote

A sliding glass door enquiry should describe the complete patio opening: moving and fixed panels, frame, track, screen and surrounding finishes. Photos help distinguish an operating problem from a full replacement request.

Show how the door operates

Explain whether the panel is hard to slide, the latch will not engage, the screen is damaged or water appears around the opening. Photograph the full assembly from both sides, including the track and threshold. Record any manufacturer label that is visible without removing parts. Ask for an assessment before assuming that new rollers or a new panel will solve the problem.

Define the replacement package

State the number of panels, preferred opening direction and whether you want to retain the existing opening dimensions. Include screens, handles, locks, finish and glazing preferences in the enquiry. Final measurements and product specifications need confirmation by the supplier and installer; rough dimensions are for initial discussion.

Include access and surrounding work

Describe stairs, balconies, fences and the route for moving large components. A condo or strata project may also need building access arrangements and permission from the property manager. Ask the quote to distinguish removal, disposal, installation, perimeter finishing and any wall repair. Changing the opening size is a separate construction scope that should be assessed early.

Send a useful project brief
