Interior Doors: From One Room to a Complete Home Package

Interior door work can involve a single damaged leaf or a coordinated package of doors, frames, trim and hardware. An opening list keeps the rooms and specifications clear from quotation to installation.

Make a room-by-room list

Give each opening a simple identifier such as bedroom one, laundry or office. Record the existing style, approximate size and whether you are considering a leaf-only replacement or a complete prehung unit. Photograph the hinges, latch edge and trim. Include closet doors and unusual openings as separate items rather than assuming they match the main room doors.

Choose the scope before the finish

Discuss panel style, construction, finish and the feel you want in use. List handles, privacy locks, stops and hinges. If you are trying to improve privacy or sound separation, describe that goal without assuming a heavier leaf alone will achieve it. The complete opening and surrounding construction need to be considered.

Coordinate flooring and painting

Tell the installer about planned flooring changes, trim replacement and wall work. Identify who paints the door and frame and whether finishing happens before or after installation. In occupied rooms, agree how furniture, dust protection and daily access will be handled.

Keep shared-building entries separate

A suite entry or common-area door should not automatically use the same specification as an ordinary room door. Provide the building's existing documentation and have the responsible project team confirm its requirements. Use the door schedule checklist for multiple openings.
