Outfitting New Builds with Doors, Frames and Hardware

A new-build door package works best when the door schedule, frame details, hardware sets and installation scope are coordinated before procurement. Keep revisions visible and assign responsibility for final approvals.

Start with the current drawings

Send the drawing issue date, opening schedule, relevant details and project location. Identify residential, commercial and shared-building openings separately. Mark quantities and unresolved selections rather than treating a preliminary schedule as an approved order. Include architectural wood, interior, exterior and pressed-steel openings wherever they occur in the project.

Review the whole opening

Each scheduled opening should connect a door leaf to its frame, hardware, finish and documented performance requirements. Track access-control connections and the trades responsible for them. For commercial pressed-steel doors, discuss frame configuration, wall interface, preparations and delivery sequence with the supplier before release.

Plan delivery and installation phases

Discuss floor-by-floor or building-by-building deliveries, unloading, storage and protection. Agree how opening identifiers will remain visible through delivery and installation. State who installs frames, hangs doors, fits hardware and completes adjustments, painting and adjacent repairs. Include a process for recording changes after the order is approved.
